BTEC

Evening All,

Hoping someone on here has experience of either teaching Btec First Certificate or even better has set up the course in their school?

I'd like to know:

- can you run the course in one year?

- how is it moderated, do you send assignments away or does someone visit?

- does anyone run it along side GCSE PE and if so how has that worked out both in terms of pressure on the kids and pressure on staff?

Hi Mat,

I have spoken to my collegue and he has said you can email him about the Btec first. He has far more experience in this than i do.

Thanks for your replies everyone and thanks for giving me lot's of people's email addresses, i'm sure they'll be pleased with you!!

Before I email anyone, can someone please answer my first question which is: can the course be completed in 1 year? That is my main issue at the moment.

Rachel, do you think you could ask your partner whether the students have found it too much doing GCSE and Btec at the same time. I'm sure there are others who are considering running both courses and who would appreciate his thoughts?

Hi Matt

There is a lot of support avaibale from Edexcel for BTEC Sport. You will have an attached BTEC Regional Quality Manager for your area who can help with the basics but there is lots of subject specialsit stuff as well.

Hi Matt,

Sorry only just replying.  He doesnt find it very useful running them alongside eachother but i think thats more to do with the units his HOD has picked.  Also, have you checked whether if they do both GCSE & BTEC that they both count cos in Science they dont, they can only use the points from one of the two.

We are delivering the BTEC Firsts from 2010 | Sport at KS4 next year.  I was wondering what timescale people deliver it in?  We are aiming to deliver within our PE allocation, not as an option.  I want to deliver it as practically as humanly possible, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you end up finding out if it can be completed within a year?

I've been asked by our head to research BTEC and find out more info in regards to what sort of qualifications can you get out of it at the end etc.

I currently run a short course GCSE only at the school, only have 4 student's.  Does anyone know if it's worth changing this to  the BTEC course, or remain the short course?
